UK Trade and Investment (UKTI)

  • The person in this role will lead on the HK Hospitals/Healthcare High Value Campaign, building specialist knowledge of the sectors involved and developing a strong network of connections in the UK and Hong Kong. This campaign now forms part of the China campaign and the post-holder will work closely with colleagues in UKTI China, particularly on the PRD.  They will also work closely with the Trade Commissioner to develop new opportunities in Macao.
  • The post holder will review work to date on the HVC and gather intelligence on the plans in the pipeline to articulate a new strategy, clarifying priorities for the team with plans on how to deliver them and developing and delivering on a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan. S/he will work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and clients to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Using her/his knowledge and network, the individual will gather intelligence on opportunities, undertake proactive business development work on identifying UK companies in a position to benefit from opportunities and promote those opportunities to them supported by the UKTI HK Marketing Manager. Business development visits should be considered in this context.
  • The individual will then lead her/his team to support companies to come to Hong Kong, Macao and the PRD to do business. This will involve introducing companies to Hong Kong, Macao and the PRD and helping them understand and navigate some of the challenges. It will also involve supporting UK companies and organisations already within Hong Kong to overcome challenges. This is likely to involve leading her/his team to deliver services (e.g. bespoke research, programme arranging, event management) to UK customers with the potential to win large amounts of business. 
  • The post holder will lead the HVC virtual team, liaising with the other team members in HK, China, the UK (including the UKTI Project Manager and the Ernst & Young Specialists), including organising regular virtual team telecons. The post holder will be required to work in parallel and take advice from the two local specialists in the team.
  • The post holder will contribute to the GREAT campaign work with a particular focus on using the Health is GREAT campaign to support HVC objectives.
  • The post holder will take the lead for the UKTI HK team on a number of key stakeholders as part of the team’s new strategic relationship management approach.
  • The post holder will oversee the work of the B3(L) Education Lead to meet their objectives with a focus on how that sector can make the most of the opportunities in the education and training sector.  Working within the Education Lead, the post holder will support the development and delivery of a work programme to support UK organisations to take advantage of opportunities in this sector e.g. international school licenses, eLearning opportunities, UK university programme exports and education philanthropy (working closely with the Investment Team).
  • The individual undertaking this role will manage an A2(L) trade adviser. S/he will ensure high quality people management is in place within their team, with clear objectives set, strong performance management and appraisal. They will encourage continuous improvement through learning and development plans. They will ensure compliance within their team on budgetary and procurement rules, leading by example.
  • The post holder will occasionally undertake similar work to support other Assistant Trade Commissioners (ATCs) in their work depending on workload and priorities. There is the need to work collaboratively with other ATCs to ensure sharing of best practice and contacts across the sectors who are involved in multiple HVCs.
