MAIN PURPOSE OF INTERNSHIP
A one month position, the Summer Intern will work with the Embassy Communication Manager to overhaul and update the Embassy’s contact database for Finnish alumni of UK universities and other institutions of higher education and specifically recipients of British Government/British Council/British Embassy scholarships over the years. It will require good detective skills and persistence to reach out and re-establish relations with former scholars using existing but outdated data, and running a social media campaign (Twitter, Facebook). Arrange the updated information in an electronic database. This will require internet and telephone search skills. Deliver a social media campaign to reach out to possible Finnish alumni of any UK university or institute of higher learning, including defence courses. As for above, create a useful electronic database of names, position and contact details. This may also involve contact with the international offices/local representatives of UK institutions. Assist the Communication Manager and other Embassy teams (e.g. Political, UK Trade & Investment, Consular) to deliver public diplomacy events to promote a positive image of the UK. This may include helping at Embassy or Ambassador’s Residence events, or writing a blog, taking photographs, or using social media to promote UK government messaging. Work with the Communication Manager to produce a daily summary each morning of the Finnish media for the Ambassador and other customers, including in London.
