Main purpose of job:
- Lead 4-person team covering Brazilian internal politics and political relations with the UK; human rights; justice; cyber policy
- Develop and use relationships across the Brazilian government, Congress, think-tanks, media and civil society to track political developments and trends, and provide HMG with analysis and advice.
- Ensure wider Brazil Network (Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio, Belo Horizonte and Recife) has the right political contacts and tools to deliver its objectives
This is a great C4 job, that combines leading on the fascinating area of Brazilian internal politics with significant management responsibility (line management and team leadership).
You will be the person the Ambassador turns to to understand what is happening in the Brazilian political scene, including Congress. Your reporting will explain to UK ministers, diplomats and civil servants how Brazilian politics affects the UK. Your analysis will be informed by the wide range of contacts you will have. You will be the person the rest of the UK Embassy and Consulates turn to for political advice and contacts. You will do all of this whilst leading your team of four, providing support to their portfolio areas and personal development. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis and reporting on Brazilian politics and its impact on the UK
- Lead on relations with Congress
- Advise the Ambassador, senior staff and different policy team on political and stakeholder engagement
- Lead, support and develop a team of four
- Help your team deliver in the areas of justice, human rights and cyber
- Support your team to deliver projects across a range of areas
- Play an active part role in the Embassy’s corporate work
- Knowledge and understanding of Brazilian political system.
- Fluency in English and Portuguese.
